When everyone thought that The Outsider Season 2 would certainly return on HBO, the network shockingly canceled it. Despite being the most-watched show of the network, it met an unwanted fate. The fans are quite disappointed after this decision as the makers previously teased that it will return. So will the fans will ever see the second season of this exceptional show? The Outsider is an American horror crime drama TV series. It adapts the best-selling novel of the same name by Stephen King. The network ordered this series back in December 2018, which made its debut on January 12, 2020. The final episode was aired on March 8, 2020. It received a great response from the critics and currently hold a 91% approval ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. And ever since its debut season finale, everyone was waiting for its second season. 

The Outsider Season 2: Canceled!

Unfortunately, HBO decided not to renew the show for its following installment despite being the most-watched show of the past three years. The show grows its viewership by 90% from its premiere to the finale. 1.2 million people tuned in to watch the premiere episode, whereas 2.2 million people watched its season finale.

The show has an average viewership of 11 million per episode across all the platforms. However, HBO wants to conclude this show as a limited series. HBO doesn’t want to move beyond the original storyline of the novel. Therefore, the network canceled The Outsider Season 2. It made them face some backlash from the fans, but the network remains constant on its decision. 

Will The Show Ever Return?

Earlier this year, Stephen King himself told EW that the show would return for its second season. He revealed that even the writers already started working on their scripts, and he has seen some of them. He said, “I have seen some of the scripts. I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you. I’ll just say that it’s really great and a real spooky paranormal element.” Since the makers are ready with its plot, therefore it is likely that some other network might pick up this show because of its popularity. 

Recently, Netflix canceled Slashed, and Shudder picked it up for its fourth season. Shudder is looking for more horror drama, whereas Netflix likes to fill in the gap left by other canceled shows. So, in the future, the fans might see The Outsider Season 2 on any of this network. Hulu can also pick up the show since it recently canceled Castle Rock, another series based on the stories by Stephen King. 

The Outsider Season 2: Release Date

If any other network picks this horror drama for its second season in the upcoming months, then the fans will most likely see the premiere of The Outsider Season 2 in early 2022. For now, every single fan of this show is demanding its return and praying for its pick up by Netflix or any other streaming platform.
