The previous episode began with Devon and Leela discussing her choice to pursue the two most difficult specializations in medicine. Devon prepared for his clinical trial conference while Leela attended Jessica’s sister, Scarlett’s, gender reveal party. Scarlett planned the revealing fire to be shot out of a colonial cannon. The father Will lit up the fuse, but the cannon didn’t fire. 

Unfortunately, the cannon fired when Will went to check it from the front. The shrapnel from the fire went straight into his belly. Will was rushed into the hospital as Jessica took over Will’s treatment as they discovered that his right lung had collapsed due to the shrapnel. While talking to Scarlett, Jessica discovered that a video of the whole incident had gone viral. 

Meanwhile, in The Resident Season 5 Episode 13, Conrad and Trevor handle a TikTok influencer named Charlie, who is barely conscious. Trevor checked the girl’s phone to contact her parents when he found out she was a celebrity. Charlie’s condition dropped while performing a CT scan. Dr. Austin assisted Conrad in stabilizing her. The scans revealed that she had a botched BBL, a fat removal surgery that was causing the complications. They found that fat had deposited on Charlie’s heart, and it could lead to a stroke if the fat went into the brain. 

Further, in The Resident Season 5 Episode 13, Charlie’s phone rang, and a warm voice spoke to ask how Charlie was doing after surgery. However, the caller cut the call when the doctors responded and asked to speak with the surgeon. The team had to approach Billie, a women’s surgery specialist, while other doctors were away for the weekend. However, Billie had not performed the particular surgery since her residency.

Billy ran into Bell and inquired about Dr. Porter, who faced multiple ethics breach allegations. Bell went to see Conrad, who studied all his test reports and passed him fit to perform surgery. She was not sure about risking the patient’s life, but Conrad assured him that they needed Bell in the OR. Bell pulled Leela aside and told him about his sclerosis diagnosis. He asked her if she wanted another surgeon to work with. However, Leela confessed to having suffered from dyslexia and working her way through her problems.

Bell talked with Will, Scarlett, and Jessica before going in to perform the surgery on Will. Conrad came to oversee him as Bell removed the shrapnel from Will’s lung while Austin stabilized him. Leela and Billie worked together to save Charlie’s life by extracting the fat from her brain. Trevor discovered that Charlie’s cosmetic surgery had been streamed on social media. Luckily, the doctors managed to save Chalie’s life in The Resident Season 5 Episode 13.
